What is abrasion resistance

Surface abrasion is divided into three aspects: wear, scuffing, and fatigue. Wear is the damaging, gradual removal or deformation of material at solid surfaces. The reason for wear can be mechanical or chemical. Scuffing is a particularly damaging form of wear in highly loaded lubricated contacts such as piston rings and gear teeth. Fatigue is the stressing of an adhesive material repeatedly.

Abrasion Impact

Abrasion damage can have an impact on shipment, storage, handling, and end-use. Abrasion can cause degradation and legibility of the product information, which is crucial to pharmaceutical products and medical devices.

ASTM D5264 Abrasion Resistance

As the definition of abrasion is fundamental, what is abrasion resistance? Abrasion resistance refers to the property of materials and structures to withstand abrasion. Abrasion resistance leads to retaining the integrity and form of materials. Generally, the abrasion resistance of a material tends to withstand mechanical action. According to ASTM D5264 standard, abrasion resistance is a desirable and important property of materials, in particular printed inks, coatings, laminates, and substrates. ASTM D5264 abrasion resistance test method provides a procedure for determining the abrasion resistance of printed materials.

Saicheng's RT-01 Ink Rub Tester is designed for the abrasion resistance of surface coating layers of printed materials, such as ink layer or photosensitive coating. The tester can effectively analyze the problems of poor abrasion resistance, ink layer falling off, and poor hardness of coating layers of printed materials.
