How to Test Heat Seal Based on ASTM F2029

Heat Sealing

Heat sealing is an essential process connected with package of product. Getting the knowledge of the parameters of the conducting process is a significant factor for package design and manufacturing.

ASTM F2029 standard

ASTM F2029 standard refers to practice for making laboratory heat seals for determination of heat sealability of flexible barrier materials as measured by seal strength. According to ASTM F2029, a heat seal layer is critical to provide adequate seal strength. In addition, other properties of the material including the overall construction and thickness, have an effect on the sealing properties of the material.

Temperature, Time, and Pressure of Heat Sealing

ASTM F2029 standard dicta the preparation of heat seals in laboratory. What are the most effective parameters of heat sealing process? The answers are heat-sealing temperature, dwelling time, and heat-sealing pressure which are also the three aspects for determining heat sealability of flexible barrier materials.

ASTM F2029 Heat Seal Tester

ASTM F2029 standard is to prepare heat seals using a sealer employing a hot-bar or jaw. HST-H3 Heat Seal Tester is composed of upper and lower heat sealing jaws. Before the test, preset the values of heat-sealing temperature, pressure, and dwelling time, then place the specimen in between the upper and lower jaws and press the start button. The whole sealing process can be finished automatically.
